Facelift (Rhytidectomy) – Dr. Shurgaya performs the face lift surgery with a modern technique that involves operating in three layers taking into consideration the facial configuration of the patient in three dimensions to preserve the individuality. The technique involves separating the skin followed by a full SMAS lift all over the face then the work is done on the deepest (third) layer. After that SMAS and or bicularis oculi (circular muscles around the eyes) are lifted and tightly secured. Also a frequently used technique is a subperiosteal midface lift (cheek lift) and suspension of soft tissue on the edge of the orbits to reduce nasolabial folds. The skin is pulled uniformly across upper, middle and bottom facial zones.

If required the technique is combined with many additional interventions:

· front or side platysmoplasty (suturing the subcutaneous neck muscles, if necessary fixation of soft tissue to the mandible bone for a clean neck-chin angle and the perfect cleavage)

· brow lift or forehead lift with the correction of the medial or lateral edges of the eyebrows

· Liposuction of the neck/chin area

The facelift is often done together with blepharoplasty, the surgery of the upper and lower eyelids.

The operation is not superficial and far more advanced than a skin or endoscopic type of surgery. The full rehabilitation period typically takes about 30 days however is completely individual (depends on age or overall medical condition, the medication of the patient etc.).

Ability to perform this type of advanced surgery requires fundamental knowledge of the facial nerve, plastic surgery and microsurgery. This allows for an original, deeper approach to facial tissues and therefore the outcome of a more effective and lasting results.
