About the Professor

M.D., PhD Tsitsino Shurgaya – a well known plastic surgeon, expert in correcting age related facial changes and facial paralysis.
She graduated from Tbilisi State Medical Institute in 1981. Since 1985, was in residency followed by postgraduate and doctoral studies at the Central Institute of Advancement of Medics (currently Russian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education – RMAPO).
In 1992 she defended her thesis on “Neyromioplastic operations in paralysis and paresis of mimic muscles”. In 1995 she defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic: “A surgical algorithm for treatment of patients with facial paralysis.
Currently she is working in the Department of Cosmetology, Maxillofacial and Plastic surgery RMAPO.
Dr. Shurgaya has more than 100 publications and scientific papers, 10 personal methodologies of operation on the face and is a co-author of two guides on plastic surgery.
To date, she completed more than 5 000 operations to remove age-related facial changes and has over 25 years experience.
The main scientific research focus of Dr. Shurgaya is all methods to rejuvenate the face, neck and eyelids, and treatment of facial paralysis. She also performs microsurgical operations for defects of the face and is able to restore facial nerve damage (facial nerve damage may occur after viral infections, strokes, accidents and previous unsuccessful plastic surgeries).
